Captain’s Log December 2011

December 2011

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2012 to our friends and family all around the World. We hope you have wonderful plans for the upcoming holiday season and powerful resolutions for making 2012 your best year ever!!

First of all we would like to announce the publication of our friend Anne’s book about the Japan earthquake/ tsunami in March this year – in our Easter newsletter we included a link to some of the letters that Anne had sent out following this tragedy and her poignant insight into the day to day life in the weeks and months that followed – these have now been consolidated into a beautiful book, the proceeds of which, after expenses, will benefit survivors of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

Secondly, we would like to invite you to make a difference in the life of a malnourished child this Christmas by clicking LIKE on the Nu Skin Facebook page, as part of their Feed The Children initiative. For every LIKE click, Nu Skin will feed a child. There is no cost, nor obligation, but by this simple gesture you can make a difference to the life of a child this Christmas. For further information about Nu Skin Enterprises and the revolutionary ageLOC anti-aging products, please contact us.

Moving on to our more personal news, since our last update at Easter, SV Amarula has remained on anchor in Saldanha Bay, South Africa, so our news is of a more terrestrial nature this year. Sailing plans were once again on hold as we pursued Lynne’s Australian Citizenship situation. We are happy to report that along with ‘new Aussie Lynne’, we were delighted to welcome 2 more brand new Aussies into our family within a space of 5 days!!

On 30th June 2011 Lynne became an Australian Citizen!!

On 1st July Eric’s daughter, Jody, gave birth to her special miracle baby Lachlan Jai Coulter on the Gold Coast and on 4th July Eric’s other daughter, Nicole, gave birth to her gorgeous 3rd daughter Lillian May Hunter in Dubbo, NSW!

We were delighted to be in Australia to welcome the latest grandchildren, not to mention spending time with the other 5 grandchildren whilst we were there.

Having more time than usual we also had the opportunity to catch up with other friends from Hervey Bay

to Sydney and whilst Lynne was awaiting the final part of the Citizenship proces – her passport – she did a house and dog-sit for friends in Brisbane, to ensure she had her doggy fix! Lynne & Jed had a wonderful bonding session and plenty of walks on Mt. Cootha!

So, another year has passed with us putting a hold on our circumnavigation plans, BUT we are now preparing to depart Africa (yes really this time!!) to cross the Atlantic early next year. In the next few weeks our plan is to visit Namibia then make the crossing to Brazil and head to the Caribbean. Whilst we are between countries, we will be limited with our communications, but please bear with us and do keep us informed of your news. We will respond as & when we have internet access. For more pressing communications and business enquiries, we can be contacted via our HF radio email, which will come in an auto-response from our yahoo address.

Other highlights of this year include being on the West Coast of South Africa during the Wildflower season (photos below), returning to Dar es Salaam for a visit to catch up with friends there and Eric diving down to recover Lynne’s Cullinan diamond ring (see previous Captain’s Log), which fell overboard whilst she was hanging the washing on the guardrails!!!

Yes he has scored Brownie points for the rest of his life with that one!!

With that, we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and all the very best for 2012.
We look forward to hearing from you as & when you have time to drop us a line
